Frequently Asked Questions

PianoViz turns any piano recording or MIDI file into a cinematic falling-note visualization that moves in time with the performance.

Simply upload your file and PianoViz takes care of the rest: identifying the notes and bringing the music to life in a smooth, responsive real-time visualizer.

Explore the piece interactively, customize its visual style, download the MIDI, and export the complete performance as a Full HD MP4 video at up to 60 fps.

Our goal with PianoViz is simple: build the most advanced piano visualization experience on the web, from the first detected note to the final video.

PianoViz brings together three technologies developed around the same experience:

  • A piano-focused AI transcription engine that turns audio recordings into detailed note data.
  • A custom WebGL2 visualizer designed for speed, precision and exceptionally smooth motion.
  • A GPU-powered video rendering pipeline that transforms your live visualization into a polished Full HD MP4.

Unlike a traditional music visualizer, PianoViz isn’t limited to a pre-rendered animation. You can play, pause, scrub and customize the performance in real time, then export those same visual settings as a high-quality video.

The result is one of the fastest, smoothest and most complete piano visualization experiences available today — and a platform that will keep getting better as our transcription, rendering and creative technologies evolve.

PianoViz is constantly evolving, with regular improvements to its AI, real-time visualizer and video technology — and new creative tools such as automatic sheet music generation and multi-instrument detection already being explored.

Absolutely. You can create up to five free 10-second previews within a 24-hour period.

You don’t need an account, a credit card or any credits to try it. The preview lets you experience the AI transcription and real-time visualizer before deciding whether to process the complete piece.

Free previews are temporary and remain available for 24 hours.

PianoViz supports the most common audio and MIDI formats:

  • MP3
  • WAV
  • FLAC
  • M4A
  • OGG
  • MID and MIDI

Audio files can be up to 50 MB, while MIDI files can be up to 2 MB. The maximum duration is 10 minutes.

Corrupted, unsupported or unusually complex MIDI files may be rejected to keep processing safe and reliable.

A clear solo-piano recording will give you the best transcription. A little background noise is usually fine, but vocals, drums or other instruments can make it harder for the AI to isolate the piano.

PianoViz is currently optimized for solo piano. Multi-instrument detection is one of the technologies we’re working toward, while MIDI files can already go directly into the visualizer because their notes are part of the file.

PianoViz uses an advanced AI transcription engine developed specifically for piano.

It analyzes the recording to identify each note’s pitch, timing, duration and intensity, including notes played across fast passages and complex performances.

That note data is then used to power both the live visualizer and the generated MIDI file.

Because the technology is specialized for piano rather than general-purpose audio recognition, it can capture far more musical detail from a clean solo-piano recording.

MIDI uploads already contain this information, so they can go directly into the visualizer.

Once your full transcription is ready, you get:

  • The complete interactive visualizer
  • A downloadable MIDI file
  • Access to all visual settings
  • A saved project in your Transcriptions page

When you’re happy with the result, PianoViz can turn those same visual settings into a polished Full HD MP4 through our GPU-powered cloud rendering pipeline.

  • Landscape 16:9 in 1920 × 1080
  • Vertical 9:16 in 1080 × 1920
  • 30 or 60 fps

Creating the full project uses one credit. The MIDI download is included, while each video export uses one additional credit.

We’ve kept it simple:

  • One full transcription uses one credit.
  • One video export uses one credit.

For example, turning a recording into a complete project and then exporting one video uses two credits in total.

You can create additional video exports from the same project by using one credit for each new export.

PianoViz requires a modern browser with WebGL2 support.

For the smoothest and most responsive experience, we recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome. PianoViz is also designed to work on recent versions of Safari, Firefox and Edge, as well as Safari on iPhone and iPad and Chrome on Android.

Performance and feature availability may vary depending on your browser, device and graphics hardware.

For the most immersive full-screen experience on a phone, turn it sideways and use landscape orientation.

A desktop or tablet is still more comfortable when you want to fine-tune lots of visual settings.
